Benazir Bhutto’s sad assassination is the continuation of blood history of political killings by terrorists, dictators and fundamentalists in that part of the world. Before Benazir, Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Zulfiqar Bhutto and Majibur Rehman were prominent among many others who were killed in pursuit of ideology and political power.
The helpless Pakistanis and most south Asian people go through life in poverty and awe of sudden death at the hands of terrorists and dictators. While carnage is continued by Jihadis,Tamil Tigers, Maoists, Naxalites and hundreds of other terror groups, the western nations have been aiding and abetting it by funding dictators, harping on democracy and supplying arms.

Don’t let them lead us Crusades again?
What are we are transforming ourselves into? Every time we hear Bush explaining his decisions by harking his beliefs and Mike Hukabee uses his faith to clobber primary voters ,the spirit of Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran is being reinforced.
Khomeini took the world several centuries back by advocating religion taking over state. Our finding fathers gave us a constitution that had been consistently protecting us against the most impoverishing of mixing state and religion. The Middle Eastern countries and those ascribing to Khomenieism have been shut out to the modern world and consigned to unending misery and poverty.
Karl Rove thrust the nation many decades back by using religion based groups to win the elections. We should not let the talk show hosts do the same again.
Politicians need to stop using religion as a crutch for lack of will to adapt to new realities and lead us to an era of Crusades.

A theory I cannot believe myself
Have Bush and Clinton hatched a conspiracy to put Hillary in the White House?
Bush continues to say that Iraq is without any end in sight. Hillary keeps on saying that she would withdraw from Iraq but does not spell the details. To me it means:
Bush’s best bet to continue his policy in Iraq is to manipulate to put Hillary in White House after he is gone. She is the only one who is capable of the famous double speak that would change the tone of the debate by deftly changing the policy.
Hillary will announce US withdrawal from Iraq over a period which will not be specified. This likely is likely to go on for a decade. This will meet the goals of the think tank that planned the strategy to put US in Middle East physically.
If there is an iota of truth in this theory, Machiavelli would be proud of it.

Why do we have wars
Charlie Wilson’s War was a beautiful parody of an average politician’s life today. That should not deter us from the good done by a many of them. A Ritual for the mentally ill
Who is bothered about mentally ill when our freedom is threatened by Sunni-Shia killings in Iraq? The VA Tech rampage by a mentally ill student who was left to fend for himself was a simple blur on the national TV screens and cast away quickly. The nation excoriates its sins against mentally ill every year by observing May as a Mental Health month.
If some of us could feel the torment of a freight train running over you every night chopping you into two. Or you have an unending urge to walk into traffic on a highway and kill yourself. Or a voice in your head is telling you every minute of the day to slay Jedi, we may be able to get past the hype of Mental Health Month.
Some of the sins we will again excoriate this month are?
Lack of a national plan to identify the mentally ill population in jails and treatment them instead of boxing them for 22 hours a day. Will the media force the Hillary, Obama, McCain, Romney and others to confront this issue?
Letting hundreds of Walter Reed’s fester in our local communities and not finding funds to treat the battle scarred army men who come back from our wars with swerve mental injuries and traumas.
Looking at 30000 plus suicides in US which arise out of mental illness? Why are the politicians talking of the rights of the unborn when we cannot help living people killing themselves?
Will May this year be different? With a price tag of more than 500 billion for Iraq and Afghanistan who are we kidding?

All Set to Sink
The new Titanic is all set to sink in early 2009.
Captain Dick Cheney had left no stone unturned to ensure this outcome. To start with the ship was loaded with heaviest ideologues that had never been within arms length of any war but were all dressed up to wage the final war on Evil. They were immediately sucked in by the Drug runners, Gun runners, self made Messiah’s and Rogues who seek the world to be at War for Ever.
The ship King GB2 will quickly drown without trace but will long serve a treasure trove for those who will study lasting effects of the demised ship. And for those who want our politics to be better, transparent and democratic.
Should the war making authority be entrusted to the President or anyone person or institution? The Bush regime is a slam dunk case of wielding of power by a group of people who could manipulate the national political system by financial muscle, majority driven arm twisting and emotional blackmail. Remember, For us or against us, Axis of Evil, Embolden the Enemy, Polls are useless and branding of all criticism of war as unpatriotic.
The subsequent events proved that they were incompetent, not worthy of power and voting public was duped.
In the English colonial style Tony Blair manipulated the richest, the most compassionate, most powerful and freest nation on the face of earth to lose its reputation as the champion of freedom. Like the classical English colonialists we are now known as a capitalist marauding, greedy and culturally insensitive nation. It will take decades to win it our reputation back.
Once is enough. We can not afford this again.
It is a time bound tradition that a civilian should be a Commander in Chief of armed forces. Is it time to rethink this? While we seek to specialize in all walks of life, why would we entrust the trigger of our nuclear weapons to a cowboy like Bush or a philanderer like Clinton. May be we need to devise a mechanism under which a binding referendum is held once a year to start, continue or discontinue a war.
Has the time to devolute the Federal power come? Running a foreign policy from Washington has proved to be a disaster. It may be the best thing in the world to let California and others to run the Mexican border policy. Or New York and others could control Canadian side. Washington may be left to deal with islands all over the world with a population of less than 500. Indivisible sovereignty is relic of the past in a very small world where legislatures who take ages to act need to be replaced faster institutions.
Democracy and Capitalism are the best available current human endeavors. But when wrapped with capitalistic needs of ideologues and their corporate backers, it becomes a lightening rod for other cultures. Intertwined with guns, bombs and greedy projects to generate capital have proved to be sperm for progenies like Al Qaida, Hamas, and rogue nations like Sudan, Libya, N. Korea and degenerate leaders Like Bin Laden, Milosevic, Idi Amin and the clown of N. Korea.
America may have been left a great legacy by Bush and his lost team by providing a great chance at remedying the ills that plague our political system.

Osama's Scoreboard
A tall lithe man in baggy oversized trousers shirt was running in a huge cave. Someone yelled “Osama, why are you running”? CIA says I am on the run. See I am running, he yelled back.
Some 20 people sat on gaudy colored mattresses and started munching from large bowls of dry almonds, pistachios and raisins. It was Osama’s birthday he was in a reminiscent mood.

So Mr.Bush is now open to new approaches on botched Iraq. While Democrats are a party of Cut and Run he needs to become a party of Divide and Run. We have such a huge mess on our hands that we are left with only one choice. Division of Iraq.
What is the big deal about dividing Iraq into Sunniland, Shialand and Kurdistan? Let’s hire Blair to do this job. His English forerunners have arbitrarily drawn and redrawn so many borders in Asia and Africa; the people in those nations are still reeling from it. Remember India in 1947, when Britisher's divide and run left millions dead. Pakistan and India are still at each others throats. Kashmir is still a killing field. We have 2 Chinas, we have 2 Koreas, we have multiple Yugoslavia’s and the list goes on and on.
So Mr. Bush ask Blair to get Saudis, Iranis, Syrian, Egyptians, Jordanians together by 1st January 2007, and give them a map and let them tinker with it and call it a Victory. While this may not a perfect solution and the killings may go on, the United States will be eternally grateful to you and Mount Rushmore may be in the wings.
And to cement your wonderful legacy of heeding to the American public, let’s fix our borders and take pride in the knowledge that we are the greatest, freest hetro national nation in the world.

Comedic Politicians
Let the November 2006 Comedy Begin
Socrates in long white robe was conducting a101 training session for the budding politicians.
If you want to win in never stop talking. Talk while awake, in sleep, on radio and TV, on internet, at shops, on road corners, on subways, at funerals, at inaugurations and even in the bathrooms if need be. The candidates must put up a great circus or they will not win.
Candidates must find babies to kiss. They must espouse the kid’s education, small classrooms and affordable childcare.
They must eat all kinds of food with their voters. They may also visit fire houses to share their meals.
They must wear flashy sneakers and walk in parades even if they do not know the reasons for it.
They must bombard constituents with brochures filled with colorful diagrams of their immeasurable performances and wild pledges to build roads, bridges and libraries.
They must feel amused when Limbaugh, Hannity, John Stewart, Leno or Letterman caricature them and make fun of them
If you are already in office and want to get elected again do not think about any budgetary constraints and promise everything you can. Have a coterie of hangers on, they look good on you.
You must establish a future pipeline to donors by convincing them that your election will bring them economic benefits and sometimes other advantages.
And if none of the above works, yell at your interviewer and dig deep for dirt on your opponent.

We are fighting the war on terrorism blindfolded? We and allies have been using the most lethal weapons ever invented to fight the unknown enemies who live in caves. It has been more than 3 years and 500 billion dollars and our enemies are still stunning us with road side bombs and propaganda tapes. It only shows that no army or weapon could defeat the ideas generated by the fanatics like Osama Bin Laden, Adolph Hitler or great idealists like Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King. We need to break the stalemate by talking, seeking, negotiating, giving and accommodating ideas from all including our enemies. Some of the ideas are:
Negotiate and seek a middle ground with those who are fighting us. It will draw many out of the caves and put a face on those who are fighting us. History is full of people who were transformed from terrorists to heroes. In 1930 Winston Churchill called Gandhi “a seditious middle temple lawyer posing as a fakir”.
The war on terrorism will not be won by cruise missiles, bombing bustling cities into medieval ages or those leaders who think that democracy is born out of the barrel of a gun. It will be won by translation of episodes of Seinfeld, Friends and Who Loves Raymond into Arabic. It will be won by building movie studios, car factories and those who are willing to share wealth to make it. It will be won by those listen, give and take and seek a consensus of minds. War has always begotten more war.

The nation will heave a collective sigh of relief at the end of GB’s second term as they did when Clinton left. .
The history will highlight GBII and his elite team for resuscitating, resurrecting and unleashing of the new world’s worst killers, terrorists and dictators and endeavor to shove the world back to the era of crusades...
Bin Laden was a forgotten lackey of cold warriors of Reagan era. He was banished from the rest of the world, cornered in Afghanistan and living on the crumbs of Taliban. GB team brought him out of closet, burnished him and made him a mythical figure of today.
After propping and arming Saddam and using against Iran and letting him kill Kurds and Shiites, he was declared a persona non grate via the famous non existent WMD’s.
Two years into the Iraq war no one had heard of Zarkawi. The GB team resurrected a new monster of an enemy in Zarkawi. Than he was killed and left a violent legacy.
The latest GB foray was the creation of a mythical figure in Nasrallah. This time not only did they make Nasrallah a name to reckon with in Middle East, they also demolished the Israeli invincibility myth.
Not only have the GB team created monsters, they have acquired fair weather friends like Musharraf of Pakistan and Saudi royal dynasty who do not an iota of democracy in them.
We are on the way to establish great democracies and protect our great homeland?
