Benazir Bhutto Blown Away

Benazir Bhutto’s sad assassination is the continuation of blood history of political killings by terrorists, dictators and fundamentalists in that part of the world. Before Benazir, Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Zulfiqar Bhutto and Majibur Rehman were prominent among many others who were killed in pursuit of ideology and political power.

The helpless Pakistanis and most south Asian people go through life in poverty and awe of sudden death at the hands of terrorists and dictators. While carnage is continued by Jihadis,Tamil Tigers, Maoists, Naxalites and hundreds of other terror groups, the western nations have been aiding and abetting it by funding dictators, harping on democracy and supplying arms.

Many will argue that democracy and economic empowerment will end this. It is like seeking better life in reincarnation or waiting for the coming of Messiah.We could start by choking the supply of arms and recognizing that democracy comes in many forms and shapes.

Don’t let them lead us Crusades again?

What are we are transforming ourselves into? Every time we hear Bush explaining his decisions by harking his beliefs and Mike Hukabee uses his faith to clobber primary voters ,the spirit of Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran is being reinforced.

Khomeini took the world several centuries back by advocating religion taking over state. Our finding fathers gave us a constitution that had been consistently protecting us against the most impoverishing of mixing state and religion. The Middle Eastern countries and those ascribing to Khomenieism have been shut out to the modern world and consigned to unending misery and poverty.

Karl Rove thrust the nation many decades back by using religion based groups to win the elections. We should not let the talk show hosts do the same again.

Politicians need to stop using religion as a crutch for lack of will to adapt to new realities and lead us to an era of Crusades.

A theory I cannot believe myself

Have Bush and Clinton hatched a conspiracy to put Hillary in the White House?

Bush continues to say that Iraq is without any end in sight. Hillary keeps on saying that she would withdraw from Iraq but does not spell the details. To me it means:

Bush’s best bet to continue his policy in Iraq is to manipulate to put Hillary in White House after he is gone. She is the only one who is capable of the famous double speak that would change the tone of the debate by deftly changing the policy.

Hillary will announce US withdrawal from Iraq over a period which will not be specified. This likely is likely to go on for a decade. This will meet the goals of the think tank that planned the strategy to put US in Middle East physically.

If there is an iota of truth in this theory, Machiavelli would be proud of it.

Why do we have wars

Charlie Wilson’s War was a beautiful parody of an average politician’s life today. That should not deter us from the good done by a many of them. Yet the movie and many before that have completely failed to address the problem associated with foisting of unnecessary wars on mankind for purely economic reasons.
Who gains from wars to germinate freedom and democracy?
Not the people. They continue to be slaughtered all over the world. A lot more live in refugee camps today. The Industrial / military complex stands to gain very heavily from any armed conflict. Remember Eisenhower. The most successful politicians of today are the creations of this complex. Bushes have been funded and backed by the oil lobby from the get go. The second Bush does not even know how to use his bully pulpit. Cheney and Rumsfeld were provided to him as crutches.
The complex has used ideology as the piggyback to promote, fund and manipulate wars all over the world and is well entrenched for many more centuries.
Thank you Tom Hanks for pointing your finger at politics but I still would go for Sonny Bono and Angelina Jolie as freedom torch bearers.
